Wii will not support DVD playback!!
![]() Nintendo VP of marketing has confirmed to IGN that Wii will not include DVD playback. From the article: "Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, confirmed to IGN Wii today that its forthcoming Wii console will not play Hollywood DVD movies. The decision to remove the functionality was made in order to deliver the machine at a cheaper cost and because most people today already own DVD players." Thanks Joystiq! |

First-party Wii games will be region-free!!
Joel Johnson from Wired News was able to extract a rather valuable tidbit of information that will likely please gamers all across the world. Perrin Kaplan casually confirmed that all first-party Wii games will be free of draconian region locks, thus allowing them to run on a Wii system purchased from Japan, Europe, America and everything in-between. The same doesn't hold true for third-party games yet, but one can only hope they follow the glorious example and do away with an annoying system that has long since been dropped in handheld platforms.
Thanks again to Joystiq for heads up! |

Rumor: Wii Delayed For Europe Until 2007
![]() Link "According to the Argos website â€" probably best described as a sort of UK and Irish Wal-Mart where you order everything by catalogue and then sit on your ass for half an hour, waiting for it to emerge from the warehouse â€" the Wii release date is going to be March, 2007. Just a few days ago, though, the banner apparently read 'Winter, 2006'. Before panic commences for us Euro-types, this is really the equivalent of any retailer's random prediction for console or game release dates: highly suspect. What makes Argos' speculation so troubling is it comes a mere 16 hours before the UK Nintendo presser, when the Wii's Europe launch date and price will be announced. Worse yet, it essentially mirrors the disappointment gamers got earlier this month when it was announced that the PS3 would be delayed in Europe for an additional 4 months." Florian Eckhardt - Kotaku First PS3 now Wii?! Whats going on here! *sigh* |

Update : Wii's Swedish Distributor: €250. Late November
According to Swedish website PCForalla, a representative from Bergsala (official Nintendo importers of Sweden) claims that the Wii will be coming out in Sweden at the end of November or the beginning of December.
Price? 1,800 Krona or about 2,300 Krona after Value Added Tax. That basically translates to €250, minus a euro or two. Many thanks Florian Eckhardt - Kotaku. |
